Session 2: Understanding Feelings

This session focuses on helping children recognize, name, and accept common feelings related to parental illness, such as fear, anger and sorrow. It seeks to further establish the group setting as a safe, supportive place for expressing feelings and sharing common experiences.

Through drawing activities and a discussion of Shel Silverstein's poem, "The Smile Makers," children become familiar with the concepts of masking one's feelings and assuming responsibility for someone else's feelings.
