Session 8: Solving Problems

This session focuses on teaching participants the basic principles of social (or interpersonal) problem solving. Research supports that social problem solving skills relate positively to children's peer relations and overall adjustment. After a brief discussion in which children identify some common problems, participants learn five basic steps for solving social problems effectively, and then apply the steps to a real-life situation.

Children take home two handouts (a sheet listing the five steps for solving social problems and a problem-solving cartoon) to share with parents. The session ends with a relaxation exercise.
